A Photo Adventure To The Cloisters
The medieval collection of The Met in Washington Heights on a beautiful day in NYC.
From Wikipedia:
“The Cloisters, also known as the Met Cloisters, is a museum in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, New York City. The museum, situated in Fort Tryon Park, specializes in European medieval art and architecture, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods. Governed by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, it contains a large collection of medieval artworks shown in the architectural settings of French monasteries and abbeys. Its buildings are centered around four cloisters—the Cuxa, Saint-Guilhem, Bonnefont, and Trie—that were acquired by American sculptor and art dealer George Grey Barnard in France before 1913 and moved to New York. Barnard's collection was bought for the museum by financier and philanthropist John D. Rockefeller Jr. Other major sources of objects were the collections of J. P. Morgan and Joseph Brummer.”
I spent a pleasant day wandering through it, taking pics and avoiding a large tour group that would take over an entire room.

The Unicorn Tapestries are amazing works of art but they are really strict about getting too close, the tapestries are in a small room and it is super popular. Frequently a recorded male voice would be heard, "you're too close, step away from the art" and everyone would stop and look around to see if it was them. But no one was that close that I could see. But it made it hard to photograph.

They have a couple different garden areas. One has the plants grown medicinally during those times. The other has seating among columns topped with carved figures.

I posted my favorite pic of the day at the top, but this one is a close second.
This one is special because I believe it is a dragon. I deal with anxiety and call it my dragon that I battle.
Finally on my way out of the park I spotted a photography session about to start.
It was a pleasant end to lovely adventure, I hope you enjoyed coming along!
This is the second in what I hope to be a long series of photo adventures. The first was Coney Island.
Coney Island In Pictures
I have lived in NYC since 1984. I am now leaving the Big Apple and headed to a place that most certainly rocks, Cleveland. I have just 16 days before the move and I am assuming I won’t be coming back. So I wanted to do something I have had on my list for a very long time, go to Luna Park in Coney Island and ride the Cyclone. I made that dream come true today.
Beautiful photos! I have always wanted to go here and need to fix that, soon.
What a great photo trip, every bit as evocative as places I’ve seen in England. Fascinating history and art. And I can revisit on your newsletter. Thanks!!
