Dark Man
The darkness creeped
into crevices it seeped
looking for softness to yield.
While staring blankly to the fields
within the place of dreams.
Where fire burns in reds
cutting a jagged edge
searing a scar into place
along a darkened face.
Here upon the mirror
the light within grows dimmer.
Shadows swell beyond themselves
as the heart remembers.
The mind eats the black,
struggles to hold it back
then chokes it down with a grin
dark man’s won again.
There he hides
shies from the light
never letting go.
Somewhere innocence
battles the darkest part of the soul.
